Arnoud Wolff (1968) gained his master econometrics at the Rotterdam Erasmus University in 1993. After fulfilling the military services obligation as an officer at the Royal Artillery he started working at ABNAmro Bank in 1994. Initially as a buy-side analyst global capital goods, therafter as co-manager of the Transeurope Fund, by then an adventurous investor in both West and Eastern Europe.
In 1997 he moved to Robeco Group to found the Euroland Midcap Fund and later, in 1998, the European Midcap Fund. These mutual funds invested in smaller European companies.
During his tenure as a mutual fund manager between May 1995 and April 2006 he visited or met with more than 2,000 companies across Europe. The annual compound unleveraged return before management fee charges of the funds under management amounted to 18.5% per year over the period.
Arnoud left Robeco in 2006 to establish Phida Capital through which he invests in small, often illiquid companies (microcaps) preferably listed on the (local) German, Dutch or Belgium stock exchanges.
In July 2007 Teslin Capital Management granted Phida Capital the mandate to manage Midlin N.V., a specialist fund that invests in smaller entrepreneurial companies in Europe.
As a publicist Arnoud Wolff contributes on issues like mutual funds and smallcap investing, among others for the independent investor webside IEX.nl. He also advices clients of the independent financial advisory firm Inzicht en Advies on investment strategies.
